#8 Things about Sierra Brava Lodge you probably didn't know

8 things about sierra brava you probably didn't know:

1. POSTA SAN CARLOS

The history of Sierra Brava Dove Hunting Lodge, originally known as “Posta San Carlos”, dates back to 1874 when it served as a Pony Express ranch.

The Posta was part of “El Camino Real” that connected Peru with Argentina. It served mainly as a place to eat, rest from a long journey, and exchange tired horses for fresh ones ready to gallop across the country-side on the next leg of the Pony Express route.

2. FINAL HUNTING

When Sierra Brava opened its doors, 20 years ago, it was called FINAL HUNTING. When hunters who visited us at that time repeatedly asked why it had to be their final hunt, we thought it was time to change it.

Sierra is the Spanish word for the hills where we hunt and Brava is the name of the bush that covers the Sierras.

3. EL TOPO MASTER CHEF

Did you know that El Topo was Sierra Brava’s Master Chef when it all started?

He was the person who put together the menu, proud creator of our famous Chimichurri recipe, and protagonist of the most entertaining cooking lessons and wine tasting experiences!

4. SIERRA BRAVA WINE

A perfect meal goes hand in hand with a perfect Argentine wine, and there is no better wine to accompany a barbecue of red meats than a good red wine.

Sierra Brava labels an exquisite wine from one of the best wineries in Mendoza and more than 2500 bottles are drunk per year at our premises!

5. CHARLY AND WILLY DUO

Some evenings after-dinner, entertainment is provided by the Great Charlie & Willy Duo. These guys play a wide variety of instruments, ranging from guitar, mouth harp, bongo, drums, to flute and violin, and they are terrific singers too. They do knock-em dead renditions of Argentine folksongs and hits by Simon and Garfunkel, the Beatles and many more.

6. DICK'S GUN ROOM

Our gun room is called after a very good friend, Dick “THE LEGEND” Fenner.

Dick had suffered a stroke the year before he came to Sierra Brava and was stuck on his wheelchair, half his body rigid after the physical tumble. He still managed to come with his loving wife Claudia and a group of close friends, the Gallants... His spirit, love and passion for life were flying higher and faster than any dove in Northern Cordoba. Dick passed away 10 months later but he left a lasting legacy at Dick’s Gun Room.

7. SIERRA BRAVA SHOOTING RECORDS

The highest ranking at dove shooting in one day was achieved by Toby Thomas at Sierra Brava in January 2018!

This year we were proud to issue the Hunter of the Decade Award to Bobby Davidson, “2017 hunter of the year”!

8. THE SIERRA BRAVA TEAM

Sierra Brava would not be the same without the strong relationship we have built with our staff during the years. Did you know that most of our employees have been with us since the beginnings? We have learnt together and we have grown better and stronger together.
